Cloudburst’s new 23.9 kW Solar Photovoltaic system went live June 11, 2010. We expect to generate nearly two thirds of the electrical power consumed at our facility each year. Generating Clean Power we will reduce our carbon output. Any power we generate in excess of what we use on site will flow back onto the electrical grid for public use.
This is a major step in our Energy Self-Sufficiency Plan. We also collect enough waste vegetable oil from our restaurant customers to produce biodiesel equivalent to two thirds of the fuel consumed by our collection fleet.
We are proud of these accomplishments.

RESIDENTIAL SERVICE:

Cloudburst serves parts of Irvington, Laurelhurst, Buckman, Kerns, and Sunnyside neighborhoods.

There are many service levels for residential service.

ROLLCARTS FOR GARBAGE: Cloudburst provides rollcarts for garbage in 3 sizes: 35 gallon, 60 gallon, or 90 gallon on request.

These convenient rollcarts have large wheels and durable attached lids. If the cart breaks or wears out due to normal wear and tear, we will replace it at no charge.

GARBAGE CANS: There are two garbage can sizes that the customer may provide: 20 gallon “minican” or 32 gallon. Larger cans are not allowed. There are weight limits for each can size. Overweight cans may not be collected.

RECYCLING AND YARD DEBRIS ROLLCARTS: Cloudburst also provides a 60 gallon rollcart for co-mingled recycling (except for glass which must be kept separate), and a 60 gallon rollcart for yard debris.

See Recycling Preparation requirements.

<a href="http://www.portlandonline.com/shared/cfm/image.cfm?id=209378"target="_blank"> See Yard Debris Preparation requirements.

“Recycling Only” service is available, but does not include yard debris collection.

RESIDENTIAL RATES:

The City of Portland sets rates for all residential services. These rates are determined by an exhaustive examination of the costs of providing the services, which is conducted each year.

The value of recyclable materials collected and sold is used to partially offset the cost of providing the service. So, in effect, everyone gets credit for the value of all the recycling they sort out.

Rates are adjusted each July 1. All Portland haulers must provide the designated services at the City rates. (See attached Rate schedule for details.)

BILL PAYMENTS:

Please mail your payment to:

     Cloudburst Recycling
PO Box 12106
Portland OR 97212-0106

You can arrange on-line payments through your financial institution. We do not accept payments over the phone.

COLLECTION HOURS:

Residential Routes start at 6:00 am. Route sequence can vary for many reasons, so be sure your can is out by 6:00. If you forget to put your can out on time, give us a call and we can collect double your regular amount on your next regular collection day.

We can give you the benefit of our experience to help make your cleanup a success. Many Neighborhood Associations will only use Cloudburst as their Cleanup partner. We love your community minded volunteers! They help make Portland a vibrant, caring community.

SCHEDULING: We can usually only properly handle one Cleanup Event per weekend. If you would like to work with Cloudburst on you project, please contact us early and BEFORE you have fixed your date. We want to work with your group, but we may have already made commitments for certain dates .

Hundreds of Portland businesses use Cloudburst for their waste collection and recycling services. Cloudburst serves restaurants and coffee shops, retail businesses and warehouses, apartment buildings of all sizes, multi-use buildings, industrial operations, office buildings. We can serve just about any type of business, large or small.

Cloudburst will be sure you get the best service package for the particular needs of your business. We will discuss your options and help you evaluate them according to your goals and preferences. If your needs change as your business grows, we can change your service levels accordingly.

We can provide many sizes of containers, from small rollcarts, to dumpsters, to large drop boxes. We can provide collection frequency up to 6 days per week. We still take Sundays off.

The City of Portland now requires that all businesses recycle 75% of their waste, including 100% of all paper. Cloudburst can help you meet these requirements.

Restaurants:

Restaurants need a very high level of waste collection service, having many different types of recyclable waste. Larger restaurants will need several pickups per week. In addition to our standard list of recyclables (see sort button for listing), Cloudburst provides extra recycling options you may want to consider, including food waste collection for composting and used cooking oil collection for local biodiesel production.

Apartment Buildings:

We can help with your efforts to educate tenants on proper recycling preparation. We can provide information kits and brochures, posters, etc. All recycling equipment will be labeled with decals showing what recyclable materials can go in that container.

Businesses:

We can serve all types of businesses, large or small.

Established in 1975 to develop recycling collection when there was none, Cloudburst is the oldest full service recycling collection operation in the Portland area, and was one of the first in the nation to provide this type of service. We are proud of our history of environmental innovation.

We continue to advance the goal of environmental health for our community. From our early use of biodiesel and support of local small scale biodiesel production from waste cooking oil we collect, to our long time leadership in food waste collection for composting, we look for opportunities to create sustainable options.

Please remove all ornaments, tinsel, stands, etc prior to collection. There is an extra charge of $4 for trees up to 8 ft tall, or $6 for taller trees. Trees may be cut up and placed in your yard debris rollcart for no additional charge, provided you can close the lid. Do NOT jam the tree into the cart: it must fall loosely from the cart when we dump it into the truck!
